Cracked carbon steerer from wrong top cap

  1. Anyone out there have had a problem with a carbon steerer cracking, because the top cap supplied did not have a recessed underside, that fitted into the top of the stem, and thereby supported the top stem bolt when tightened ! Makes sense ? it's hard to describe. Mine did crack because the two stem bolts that clamp onto the steerer clamped unevenly thererby squashing the top of the steerer over which cracked it - both bolts torqued to 5 NM.

  2. I've had people tell me before about them having problems with carbon bikes cracking. Is this a common problem? I ride aluminum with carbon forks, and I'm looking forward to my next bike, and I'd like to find out as much as I can about carbon before I purchase one.
