I needed to ride to the train station this morning... As usual I am way
behind schedule...
Can't take any of my good bikes as it will be locked up all day... The
newly found 3 speed is still waiting for the tires and tube to be
installed... I look around desperatly and see Carla's Purple 26"
"mountain" bike we had rescued from the trash heap... A quick squeeze
of the tire and there is plenty of air... I just adjusted the brakes so
stopping was a possiblilty...
I take her out and lock up...
Off I go... Seat is so low my knees are up around my shoulders... I
stand and hammer... I am surprised with a decent burst of speed...
My first curb I pull up and quickly realize the one thing I forgot...
The handle bars are loose!!!
I go from riser to lowers in a split second, but never lose control...
I just have to make sure I don't work the bar out from the stem clamp
as I ride
The remainder of the ride is a puzzle of friction shifting and how hard
I can pull up on the bars...
Amazingly I made it in one piece... The bike racks are over flowing at
the station so I find a spot and wedge the old purple mare in between a
Mongoose and an old huge Motobecane...
I'm really not concerned about thieves as the mongoose is locked in
terminology only...
I think one good sneeze would blow the toy lock off of the flimsy
strand of cable...
I have a basic tool box at work I was sure had an adjustable wrench to
get me fixed up for the ride home tonight. When I get to work I find
that I was mistaken... but I have a pair of pliers!
Just like the old days!
Jimbo... Isn't this where I came in?...(san)
