I know cyclists typically have lower bone density that those who participate in higher-impact excercises, but what effect would regular cycling have on connective tissues in, for example, the knees or hips?
The reason I ask: I had my first "yardsale" last weekend while snow skiing: skis and poles flew everywhere as I cartwheeled out of control down the side of the mountain. I was almost certain I would have a serious knee injury such as an ACL or MCL tear, but I got out of it without even a sore spot. My hams are reasonably built up from regular, year- round cycling, so I'm wondering if that might have contributed to my injury abatement.
