  1. I was wondering if training for mtb races is the same for road races. One would think that it would be different, but I haven't found specific training guides for mtb.
Can anyone give me a simple training schedule?Right now I do about 25 miles a day with a 30 minute 17% climb thrown in there either at the start or the finish.I do this for 4 days straight then rest one day and start again.
I know there are alot of factors that i'm missing but can anyone maybe point me in the right direction?
    Thank-you for your help.Jason

  2. Don't have any specific guides but from my own experience:

Short bursts explosive power tends to be more of a requirement in MTB racing, depending of course on the races you are in. For fitness and power, work on a solid cardio base, but throw in some short, intense interval work as well.

Very important if there is any technical component to your races is not to neglect technical off-road riding. It's very easy to fall out of practice, as I discovered when I moved and no longer had to ride single track twice a day to and from work.

Riding technical stuff keeps your reactions up to speed, as well as keeping arms and hands in shape, and balance and core body strength are also improved by riding off road.

EDIT: Oh yeah and riding technical off-road is more fun anyway, so helps to keep your motivation up. 😄

  3. Take a look at The Mountain Biker's Training Bible by Joe Friel. It has a lot of information but takes a few reads to digest.
