I was contemplating a midnight lunch (I normally eat about this time of
"day" since I work nights) and am considering stashing more condiment
packages.
I sometimes use the time on weekends to do prep cooking. I just finished
slicing up about 3 lbs. of pork shoulder and have it soaking in a
marinade for an hour or two before I stir fry it.
The Marinade is made up of the following:
1 large fresh ginger bulb, finely grated
A generous sprinkling of garlic powder
A light sprinkling of salt free lemon pepper
A generous dollop of oyster sauce
about 1/4 cup of mushroom soy sauce
2 tablespoons or so of home made herbal vinegar
I put on a pair of gloves and mixed that well with the meat and put it
in the back 'frige.
In the meantime, I'm hungry!
I had about a 6 oz. ground beef patty in the back 'frige that was fried
3 days ago (a leftover) so I put that in a bowl, lightly salted it, then
spread 2 packets of Jack in the Box Marinara sauce over it, topped it
with Jack Cheese and nuked it. It's not bad. ;-d
So anyway, I've noted that our Condiment package stash is growing and
even dad is contributing. I found 4 packets of Golden Corral honey
spread in the stash tonight that he had kept. I also keep ketchup
packets. I quite buying bottles of Ketchup quite some time back. We use
so little of it, I end up throwing away at least 1/2 the bottle after
about 5 years or so when it starts getting moldy... ;-)
Seems to me that Condiment packs would be nice to keep food interesting
in the case of a disaster, or are just plain handy for midnight snacking
or simply as self-contained containers for small amounts of stuff that
is not used with any great frequency. They'd also be handy as heck for
road travel and camping/fishing trips.
So far I've seen (and kept):
Ketchup
Mustard
Mayonaisse
Tartar Sauce
Picante Sauce
Taco Sauce
Marinara sauce
Honey
Honey/mustard
sweet and sour sauce
Pickle Relish
Ranch Dressing
I don't think I'd bother with soy sauce packets as that stuff keeps at
room temp., and I use it up fairly quickly. I've found I HAVE to keep my
oyster sauce at room temp or I can't get it out of the bottle! It
solidifies like honey. I go thru it pretty quickly anyway... :-)
Figure I owed y'all an on topic thread after the last two I started...
