I am just finishing my second season of triathlon. I was unable to compete the first season because of a bad hip injury which prevented me from running for almost 4 months. This year I have competed and despite all of the time I spent on my trainer, found the bike leg very hard.
For eight months of the year here, it is virtually impossible to bike outside because of snow, ice and 40 below temperatures so I trained indoors over the winter using a Mag850 trainer (set on high) and my road bike along with some spinervals videos and the occasional movie for longer rides.
Has anyone had any experience with the computrainer Pro 3D? I have been considering purchasing one for the past year but I have a limited budget and want to make sure that it is a worthwhile investment. Will it make getting on the road easier and help develop significantly more power and speed? Is it fairly interesting to use? Does the software work well? Can I accomplish the same using the equipment I already have?

Thanks.
It gives you feedback that helps improve pedal stroke. Improved pedal stroke can help you improve your power output and therefore speed. There isn't any built-in mechanism for aerodynamics so you will need to get those positioning issues resolved and dialed in so you will practice in the aero position. It is better, in the interest category, than many indoor systems, but you need to make the efforts (mental and physical). I don't think your current equipment can give you the detailed feedback of Computrainer. There is still a reality check when you transition from trainer to real riding. I think your training process will help you though some of those issues, but knowing you have the improved power, gears to select, what your heart rate range is, and how to be relaxed and confident will get you ready next season. Can you find a place that will allow you a serious demonstration with an experinced person?
Thanks for the information David. I appreciate it. I just found out the other day from a member of our triathlon club that they do have a machine available to try. I'm friends with the president of the club, who is a long time user of computrainer, so I think I'll try to arrange a meeting with him and try it out.
