I went out for an early morning run the other day without
any stretching or proper warmup. Halfway through the run, I
felt my left calf tighten up to the point where it hurt to
continue running. I walked home, and immediately began icing
it along with taking Aleve. The pain seems to be in the
gastroc/soleus area. It is mainly on the outer half of the
left calf. I have not run on it yet, but did do some
elliptical crosstraining today with no aggravation. I have a
5K coming up Saturday, and I'm concerned about the added
stress that this will put on my undiagnosed calf injury.
Does it sound like a muscle tear, or just a strain? Would a
compression sleeve over the calf help me with the upcoming
5K? Thanks for any info.
