Just wondering if anyone has used the Polar CS600 power meter with Rotor Q rings? Do the Q rings mess up the power meter with the varying distance between the chain and the sensor? I'm looking at maybe getting some Q rings but don't want them if they mess up my readings.
I will defer to the judgement of anyone who has already tried this, but in case anyone hasn't....
The reading of power does not depend on the distance between the chain and sensor. Power depends on vibration frequency of the chain only. Torque already varies around the pedalling cycle with round rings so i can't see how Q rings should introduce errors in the measured power.
However, the distance affects the strength of signal recieved.
Surely polar should give you a range of distances over which the sensor functions best. All you need to do then is check the difference between the major and minor radii of the Q rings and, using trigonometry, calculate the variation in chain height. If this works out in the required range you need, then all should be well.
