  1. is the amount of throw needed to change gears on compact/non compact chain rings different? for
    instance would sora levers work on a compact setup?

    No, the rings are the same distance apart. What is critical is having the arc of the fder cage match
    the arc of the chainrings(biggest) you are using.

    Sora levers will work with a fder that is road STI compatible, not a MTB one generally.
