I'm doing the Bridge to Bridge in a few weeks and I'm tired of swapping my double crank (Ultegra w/ spline bottom bracket) to my triple crank (Truvativ w/ square bottom bracket) when I do these kinds of heavy hill events (did the Mountains of Misery earlier this year) - does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do?
I talked breifly with my "wrench" today - he recommended that I switch to a "compact crank" which is a fairly flexible-duty crank for both flat and ultra heavy rides - a double ring crank. Bad move on his part because he won't make $$ for each time I have him swap them.
My current setup is all Ultegra with triple shifters, triple derailers (front & rear), 9 gear cassette.
If you have a "Compact crankset" that you could recommend (I'm not looking into a carbon crank for this bike), please list it.

I'm using an FSA Gossamer Mega Exo 50/34 crankset with my Ultegra 10 12-25.
