  1. Hi all,
I am looking for a commuter type bike that's aster on the road than my
mountain bike and have 3 in mind and was wondering if anyone has any
thoughts or experiences of any of these. My choices have boiled down
    to:

Dawes Discovery 701 Cannondale Warrior 800 Kona Dr Drew.

Any advice would be gratefully received. My intention is to stick mainly to tarmac with the odd
flurry on canal paths when necessary. Many thanks

    Sam

  2. Consider also a Specialized Sirrus with 28mm tyres.

Takes 3 to 5 minutes off my 5 mile commute

Have you considered the Fisher dual sport?

I don't know the Dawes, but Cannondale is a good brand, and I have a soft spot for Kona. Some test
    rides are in order.

The Dr. _Dew_ is a very nice bike by all accounts. It's basically their cyclocross bicycle with a
flat bar instead of a drop bar.

Which begs the question, have you considered looking at drop-bar bikes? They're slightly more
aerodynamic than flat bars, which translates to more speed. Cyclocross bikes are an especially good
choice, since if you're actually commuting, they often have room for relatively fat tires and
fenders. The latter is even more useful than the former.

My commuter of choice is an ancient Japanese Bianchi, and while this would have been a fast bike
with some touring aspirations in its day, I quite happily ride it on the occasional gravel path, or
for the last few days, in a bit of snow.
