Take a look at the Columbia Silver Ridge. It appears to be of sound construction for a discount/mass market/sporting goods store bike. Decent aluminum frame. Regularly sells for $200USA at [censored]'s, but can be had for $150. But for a little more I would go with an Iron Horse Model, like the Warrior.

Thanks for suggestion. I purchased a Giant Yukon at Olympia, a local bike store. Since then the weather has been cold, today even snow! I don't think I can go wrong with a Giant. Felt great on a test run.

reviving an old thread.....

I recieved a columbia trailhead disc for my birthday in February, and I like it thus far. It's in the shop now getting the forks replaced, the cheap RST that comes with the bike are [censored]! But the company I bought it from sent me a rock shox judy as a replacement which was nice. I recall the guy at the shop being pretty amazed at the quality of the framework of the bike. He said it was a decent hardtail that should be able to hit the trails with no problem. The catch is that the compenents are somewhat cheap, like the front and rear derailers, and the fork. Those things can be replaced with higher quality ones with no problem. If you were lucky enough to get it when it was 139.00 on a special sale that was going on with amazon, kudos to you.
