He is out of the coma and improving, albeit slowly. He is a really tough
kid and has what it takes to recover from this.

That he is recovering is great news. Juniors are too few and precious for
the rest of us to allow this kind of thing. It would sure be nice if the
"senior leadership" on big group rides (like the river ride) made more of an
effort to control things. I mean, a stupid masters fattie hitting a car is
one thing, but when it happens to juniors, something has to be done! IMHO.

Agreed Mark. Our club scrapped it's signature ride because it was getting out
of hand and was creating a community relations problem. It really was a great
ride, and went pretty well when our pros and serious cat1s were riding herd on
it, but after they had a lot of other commitments it came apart.
We have had some serious "discussions" with people who coach Jrs at races
about sketchy behavior and keeping them safe during races.
I've got to say that Fernando Cuevas especially and Chris Harnisch have been
really proactive in teaching their kids the right way to race, and have been
open to observations of how to get the kids to ride smarter and safer.
