I'm itching to get back on my bike! I got a bunch of cycling equipment for Xmas, so i want to use it!
Though it has been unseasonably warm here (today it is going to be 51, and its normally about 20*), the mid forties seems to cause my lungs to contract, and I can't breathe. It has been a few months since I have ridden, and I'm sure that contributes some. Is there anything I can do to improve my lungs? I would rather stay away from inhalers and such, I don't like to become dependent on things like that.
I have exercise enduced asthema that only happens when it is cold. I was prescribed an inhaler and it works. I am not sure what it is, I keep it on my bike. I will post it next time.
When it's that cold, wear a face mask and have it over your mouth. It will increase the temp that is entering your lungs. See if that helps. Also, try wearing it over your nose and breathe through your nose exclusively. This, plus natural nostril hair, increase the temp entering your lungs, as well. But don't, by any means, add foreign hairs to your nostrils. This will not help.
