Have any of you thought about doing this, or have already? If you have, what providers did you go through, did you enjoy it, was the price fair? I'm looking to do a fast paced bike tour across the US. A life long goal i'd like to accomplish sometime soon.

I did it myself cycling from Connecticut to New Orleans then up to Tulsa where I picked up Route 66 then over to Lake Havasau City. I crossed the Mojave Desert from Earp, CA to 29 Palms, then followed the road down to Palm Springs then climbed out of the desert to LA.

I had a great time, took my time which allowed me to meet some wonderful people and see some great things. I had no support van. It was me, my bike, tent and camera gear and pages from the Woodhall Camp Directory which allowed me to choose the most inexpensive campground along my route. When the weather was hot, I opted out for the air conditioning in cheap motels.

For a fast paced trip, I'd check with Adventure cycling our of Missoula Montana. (www.adventurecycling.org) I'm sure they have a well researched list of the kind of providers you're looking for.

Good luck... have fun...
