  1. i have been cycling off road for about a year now, using cycle clips on the pedals. I am just about to buy new road machine and seems it maybe time to go for clipless pedals ie SPD's, Time, Look etc. MY concern is that I have had both ACL's replaced in both knees and I am terrified of using these pedals to find they cause some kind of knee issue, given the resticted mobility. Can anyone advise /provide their point of view on this; especially if they have first hand experience/ knowledge of this area.

  2. Different clipless systems have varying amounts of "float" -- the degree to which they let the foot swivel before it will start the clipping-out action. IIRC Speedplay pedals are the ones that have heaps of float.

Some pedal systems (Time) also have lateral float, which lets the foot move side-to-side.
