    Hi,

    A clip-on front derailleur has a metal band that clamps on around the seat tube of the bicycle (the tube the seat post slots in to). A braze-on derailleur is bolted to a metal piece that is connected to that tube.

    You can tell which you have by looking for the metal band running around the seat tube, if it's there you have a clip-on derailleur, if not then it's braze-on.
