climbs in northern NJ

Look up a couple of guys in the Morris County area. There's a shop in Parsippany where I used to live on Rt 46 that can help you out with some decent rides.

The biggest climb in Essex County is Mount Pleasant Avenue west from Main Street in West Orange. It's pretty steep but only 430 feet or so--not like Vermont. I think the toughest climb in Essex County is Walker Road from Valley Road, also in West Orange. What makes it tough is two short blocks at the top at a true 20% gradient.

The toughest climb within 20 miles of my home in the south end of Montclair is Waughaw Road from Route 202 in Montville, beginning near the Towaco train station. It's around 460 feet with lots of 12%. The biggest climb within 25 miles of my house is Skyline Drive in Oakland, beginning at the south end by the Interstate 287 overpass.

I'd be happy to introduce you to any of these climbs, as well as others. Nothing as big as the Green Mountains, but lots of shorter, steep climbs.
