  1. I am doing a 5 day charity ride this fall. I just received the routes which graph the distance and elevations.

How can I convert that information into degrees of climb?

For example, 1 day includes a hill climb of 450 meters over a distance of 7 kilometers. How to I convert that into degrees/grades of climb so I can try to match it on my training routes?

  2. 450/7000=(0.06428) x 100 = 6.43

    so the climb is 7km @ 6.43%

    so the climb is 7km @ 6.43%

look at the complete elevation profile of the course, if available. while the overall elevation gain may be 450 meters in 7 km for 6.5%, there may be spots in that 7 km where you could be doing 10-12% grades........ie a 100m climb in 1km

  4. sounds obvious now that you said it
