I am planning my first long distance bike ride (to Savannah this coming summer. The preliminary plan is to start in south Richmond county, spend the night somewhere along the way and arrive at River street the next day - about140 miles total).
I am looking for a route based on the following:
- scenery
- minimal auto traffic
- "quickie to do's" e.g. historical markers, small town museum, etc.
Any suggestions about choosing a route - or anything else?

Hi,
I'm from Georgia, too. Milledgeville. Have you thought about BRAG? It starts in June (1st or 2nd week, I don't remember) in Columbus and is a six-day trip across the state, ending at Jekyll Island. I'm going with a couple of friends. We haven't done it before, but it should be a lot of fun.

They haven't posted the entire route yet, but when they do, it'll be at www.BRAG.org. I think you could probably handle this ride. They'll have riders of every level. The hard part would probably be getting a week off work to go.
If you're interested in other events you might ride in, check on my website. I've got quite a few posted.
