Chocolate Chip Cookies
Makes about 5 dozen.
1 cup (2 sticks) butter 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup brown sugar 2 eggs 2 cup flour 1 tsp. baking
soda 1 tsp. salt 2 cup quick-cooking rolled oats 2 tsp. vanilla 1 (12-oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
This recipe -- used by former First Lady Barbara Bush -- was given to the Cookie Cart organization
to bake for the annual dinner of the Center of the American Experiment.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix together butter, sugar and brown sugar. Add eggs and beat well.
Sift flour, baking soda and salt and add to butter and sugar mixture. Add oats, vanilla and
chocolate chips. Mix well and drop by tablespoons onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes.
