  1. A number of years ago while traveling in Mexico my breakfast
on one occasion included mixed citrus fruit and chillies.
Though I would like to reproduce this, as a novice in the
kitchen I hesitate to simply throw things together. May I
    have a suggestion. Larry

I don't know what you had, but I'd probably do this:

Mix together segments of grapefruit, orange, blood orange
(if you can find one), and such. Add a little finely minced
habanero chile, a little finely minced red onion, some lemon
juice, a spash of olive oil, and some salt and pepper. Let
it stand for about half an hour.

One version of pico de gallo involves jicama and orange
slices with lemon juice and a dusting of dried red chile --
cayenne or ancho or some combination.

  3. Street vendors in Mexico City sell fruit salads with an
optional dressing of a squirt of lemon juice (the green
lemons that look like limes but aren't) and chile powder. I
think the red powder is just ground, dried chile, like
paprika. But it might be a "chili powder" with chile and
    some other spices as well.

Try paprika, or a New Mexico chile powder, or a commercial
    chili powder mix.
