  1. Anyone know of a good firm that does mail ordering for childs car seats -
looked up the models and the Beta Delux/Classic seems to fit the bill - £57
to £60 is the prices I have found but the most expensive firm also charges
£17 carriage on the seat alone, the cheapest firm is free delivery UK >
mainland but I live in Orkney and they have quoted £30 charges for parcel
force ar ANC. The alternative is to buy from Argos who advertise one for £39
plus £17.95 for a kiddies helmet and get it delivered to a mainland address
and then have it sent by post if possible. An idea of the boxed size and
weight of the seat would be handy to see if post would accept it. - TIA -
    Mick

  2. We have used this one in the past and it has been fine:

They quote free delivery for UK mainland but I don't know what the
    would charge for Orkney

As a general point, can you not find someone who is doing the crossin
in the next few days. Then, get your parcel delivered to Thurso Pos
Office, and ask them to pick it up and bring it across. Speaking as
mainlander I have no practical experience of this but would it not b
one way of avoiding the extra charge

  3. To answer the rest of your question:

For the model I mentioned, not sure of the exact dimensions bu
    the package would be approx. 50cm X 50cm X 100cm and weighin
    about 6 or 7 kg

Royal Mail will accept parcel of any size/weight - you pay by the gram
not sure what the rates for Orkney would be, though

Parcelforce website quotes same rates for Orkney as for mainland (bu
not sure if I believe that) They quote GBP13 for 3-day delivery of
    7kg parcel

As I said before, you can have the item deliverd to a Post Office (wit
your name on it) and, if you can find a helpful (and reliable) person t
pick it up and stick it in their car/var/whatever then you have saved
    bit of money

Thanks for the advice Ian. I'll ask around and if anyone is going over we
should be ok with Thurso post office. Thanks - Mick
