Anyone here ever done the Cheseapeake Bay 4.4 mile swim in June? Is it foolhardy? Scary? Banish the thought? Especially if you scored 100% humanist on the recent test so generously pointed to by L.W.
By the way, L.W., your father's beliefs and actions are not in the least contradictory, but are probably quite standard. Thinking and feeling don't have to be an exact match or even approximate each other. I quite agree with him. Also, regarding his playtime, I might even indulge in a bit of karaoke when I get older and much more mature.
If 4.4 miles sounds like too much, there's also the 1 mile Challenge. You could always try the 1 mile and see how it goes. I would like to do the 1 mile, for the heck of it.
Sounds like fun to me! Being able to say "I swam a 4.4 mile race" is a great. Go for it!

At this point, I'm not at all inclined, but we've agreed to take the first stroke on Saturday. I just made up a page for us with the workouts and the promise of a couple comments per week. We're all full of trepidation. One of us said he was just coming on Saturday to watch us thrash around. He's actually the most vulnerable to temptation for nutty stuff like this. Here's the page I just put up. http://www.personal.psu.edu/faculty/e/x/exk7/Ultradistance.html
