  1. We'd like to get one, but having a hard time finding any less that
$550 or so online. 2nd hand would be great, but i gather i've got a
very low chance of finding one that way. I've emailed the Wike folks
to see how much it'd be to get their $250 Canadian-dollar one shipped
over here. But are there any Australian-made affordable ones? Or
anything else cheapish to be found here?

    Thanks,
    Charlie

are you thinking enclosed-trailer type, with youngun just sitting there enjoying the view
or the 'alleycat' style where child gets to sit and pedal?
and what age is your 'cargo' ? 😄

We just bought one ourselves a couple of months ago. Croozer brand, sold at Goldcross www.goldcross.com.au (if you're a Melbournite), for $549 for the single seater. We bought the two-seater and have been *very* happy with it (price includes conversion kit for stroller and jogger...). Handy.

They appear to have a Phillips brand one for a bit under $500 too, but I know little about that. (although just looking around and the Melbourne Bicycle Centre has that one with a steel frame (urgh. heavy) for $399. (http://www.melbournebicycle.com.au/en-us/dept_132.html) Otherwise I think you'd be hard pressed to find one much cheaper, and I'm doubtful as to whether there are any locally made.
