cheap bikes in the US

  1. It's a fairly good axiom over here not to touch anything under UKP
    150-200, but what are the prices for comparable quality bikes in the US?
    I am trying to make some suggestions for an adult leftpondian to buy a
    "first bike" and don't want to either encumber them with a tank, or
    think it's too pricey.

    $250-$300 seems to be rock bottom for a decent quality bicycle, plus local
    sales tax. As usual, last year's models can sometimes be found for a
    discounted price. Wal-Mart, K-Mart and Target are among the stores to avoid
    at all costs. Depending on which part of leftpondia the friend lives in he
    might find this link useful: www.rei.com . Bicycles and all other kinds of
    gear for non-motorized sports.
