  1. Can I swap out the chain rings on a cottered crank? I have cottered Sugino cranks with a 40 and 52 chain rings. Can I remove both of them and replace them with one chain ring. For the time being, I would like to avoid upgrading to cotterless cranks and a new bottom bracket. I suppose I could just ride with a superflous 52 tooth ring for show ;-)

Sure as long as they are bolted on and you can match the BCD and bolt pattern.
