Chains snapping

As far as I'm aware, chains snapping is fairly unusual. It could be that you just got a dodgy chain. If this had happened two or three times, I'd start looking for possible causes, but a single occurence, I'd be inclined to put down to bad luck. In theory, a chain ought to be able to withstand any force you can generate in it - but maybe if you're a very heavy, powerful rider with a habit of stamping really hard on the pedals with the chain on the small chainring and small sprocket, you could send it to an early grave. Although, I would think that this would probably damage the chainring too.

Shouldn't happen.
Much more stress during shifting, even more if you are applying full pedal pressure.
I am sure the chain weight limitation wouldn't be exceded before your wheels or frame weight limitation,
Take a close look at your cassette cogs to make sure they aren't the cause of the problem.

Agree with the others who responded. Chains rarely snap... unless there was a manufacturing defect...

Did this just happen one time? And how did it "snap"? I've had good luck with SRAM chains and chains don't break very often, especially with only 1000 miles of wear on them. It was probably a faulty chain. A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. You probably got a bad one.
