hello;
i am replacing my badly worn drivetrain, but am having problems with the new chainrings. i put on
52-42-30 (just like the old set), but there _appears_ to be too much space between 42 and 30. i
believe i have the chainrings on correctly (there are recesses for the bolts on only one side).
testing has shown that the chain does get caught between the 42 and 30 when shifting to the 30.
eyeballing with a cheap ruler indicates the following spacing: 52 - ~ 6.5mm - 42 - ~ 9mm - 30 (these
measurements are centerline to centerline) my thought is i need to get some of those spacers to move
the 42 ring slightly towards the 30 ring, but i cannot say how far over. the easy guess would be
like 1.5mm, sure. the shifters are STI, shimano cranks and derailleurs, 8 speed rear, 8 speed chain.
am i
(a) crazy,
(b) not riding my bike for a while,
(c) going to have to shell out even _more_ money for something?
thanks in advance for any help on this;

p.s. duh, it just occurred to me to put the old chainrings back on and measure the spacing. while i
do that, any replies would be welcomed; is there some central repository for this info? i
checked sheldonbrown.com with no luck. ok, thanks.
