I have a question about chain width. I have a 7spd road bike and I have noticed that in certain gear
combinations there is a horrible sound from the chain. I thought the bottom bracket was fried, but I
don't think it is. I have come to the conclusion that the chain may be too wide, or maybe the wrong
type. When in the 39x15 and 39x21 combinations the chain pins do not appear to clear the next higher
sprocket (17 and 23), I can't tell what kind of chain is on this bike, and all I can see (on the
inside) is HG 1E or 31 I can't tell which one. Any help would be appreciated. Dennis
