My bike came with a "KMC-Z82" chain. Since I am so new to bike maintenance, I bought another chain (SRAM PC-48) to "experiment " with. It came with the SRAM power link (silver). I can buy another silver power link.
Will this link work on my KMC-Z82 chain? The chains look identical.
The old chain has less than 1/16 th inch of "stretch" at 12 inches. I'd like to interchange the two chains from time to time to experiment with different lubes. Will this cause any problems?

I experimented with two cleaning methods by putting another "Power Link" into the middle of the SRAM chain so I could treat the two halves identically in use but differently in cleaning. It sould work the same for lubrication too.

great idea, Tom. Any winners?
Sort of . . . my results contradicted the news group's conventional chain cleaning wisdom. I got longer chain wear by simply, but throughly, wiping down and brushing off the chain. The one I cleaned completely in solvent prior to lubricating didn't do as well. I used the same lubricant on both and measured both the same way with my wife acting as control on the measurment. We argued about what we saw from time to time, but the solvent cleaned chain got to 1/16 over first. I'd been using the solvent method on all of our chains (three commuters) for years and expected that the "other" method would be the hands down looser . . .HA!
The only thing I think I should have done differently was to give the solvent cleaned section more time or more heat to dry.
