  1. Hey All,

Quick questions for you. My boss has quite a few bikes and he lends me his specialized Roubaix alot. When ever I use his Roubaix the chain comes off one to two times per ride. I asked him about it and he said it has never happend to him, but it happens all the time to me. I think it might have something to do with the weight difference but im not sure(im 250lbs he is 190lbs) any thoughts?

    Thanks!

  2. IMHO the only thing that causes a chain to come off is improper adjustment. If the high and low adjustments are set properly they prevent the front or rear derailleur from forcing the chain off the wheel or cog. When I got back on by bike last June I hit the scale at 247#s..never lost a chain. Now on a 2011 Roubaix at 215#s still not lost a chain.

  3. Agree with Desertrider on limit adjustments.

The difference could be your "touch" on the shifters - especially if you're dropping on the upshift to the big ring. You may be cranking on the shift lever a little harder than your boss which moves the cage just that extra smidge to the limit that he doesn't hit. Other possibility is a weak cage spring that allows the chain too much slack on rough surfaces. If you ride rough surface with more intensity than he, you may generate more chain slop.
