  1. I went to pick up a chain breaker the other day at my LBS. They asked what kind of bike it was for... I was, of course, confused by the question. I said it was just a normal bike, and they told me that I couldn't use it then.

    Baffled, I insisted that it would work just fine unless my chain had somehow mutated without my knowledge. [the man was holding almost the exact same tool that I used to own many years ago] Again he asked what type of bike (huh?) I told him that it was just a normal road bike... an old univega. Oh, he said, in that case this will work after all...

    He babbled something about indexed shifting and changes to chains...

    Could someone explain what this guy was talking about? I have never used indexed shifters or any other new gizmo stuff like that.
