I just bought a Cateye Mity 3 computer for my Vanguard and while the manual says to install the computer on the front fork, I tried mounting it on the rear chanstay with the magnet on the rear wheel, and doing the calibration for a 26 inch wheel.
The computer now gives out mph with no problem, and indicates total mileage on the odometer, but will not display trip distances or average speed. Would this be because the pickup probe/wheel magnet may be further apart than the recommended 5mm? Or do I have a bum computer. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

If you're getting a speed readout,that proves the pickup data is getting to the computer. After that, if you're not getting a function or two it's the computer's fault. Sounds like a faulty computer unit. The problem I see is that it sounds like you spliced in a length of wire to make the harness reach, which *may* have voided any warranty. --

Bob, Make sure you have the Mity3 set to auto function. If the computer is not set to Auto, it will not record trip distances, etc unless you push the large button when starting out, then push it again to shut it off. The odo will work in either case, at least on my 3-year old model.

The computer's bad. If it were the sensor, it would either do everything or it wouldn't. There's no middle ground.
