The CATEYE 300 headlamp used nightly is maintained and protected but
during a 2-3 yearly inspection of all lights, cleaning with GC Jiffy
Bath Cleaner and Lubricant - 19-638 containing an acetic acid solution
removing tar and corrosive salts then leaving a silicone film over the
clean surfaces: I sprayed the cateye's switch as usual.
But with the unusual result of gaining a surprising 3x light output
from an already well maintained unit!
-Leads me to restate the idea that lights unused for the winter should
have batteries removed and the unit sprayed with electronics cleaner,
stored in a plastic bag held by a box.
The photon blinkie lights were cleaned with jiffy-each tilted down and
switch area wetted with jiffy-the jiffy seeps down around the outside
seal cleaning the switch inside.
Often lights or potentiometers thought broken, are repairable with
electronics cleaner. Spray, let sit, (in warm sun or? but not LED up)
clickclickclick without power, dry for a few days then try again with
batts in.
Wipe the exterior with liquid silicone wax.
Cyclometers benefit from this maintenance cycle-wipe the contacts area
dopwn with the stuff-available at radio shack or allied electronics
