Cateye HL-EL500

I have been using the el 300 for a while now. It boasts 400 candle
power with 5 LED's. I bought it for the long battery life, not for the
light, as it doesn't really give me much. It is the 5th cateye I
have bought, They all have battery connection issues. I do use
rechargables, but I am constantly taking apart and cleaning all
contacts, which is not easy on the micro HL500II
my taillight cateye also has switch problems, but hey what do you expect
for cheap plastic headlights.
I like that the new one says it is highly water resistant, but I think
if you wait a little longer they have a newer one coming, better,
brighter and lasts longer.

Has anyone tried this for lighing the road?

I have an HL-EL400, which is physically light and effective for being
seen; however, it does not light the road. According to Cateye's web
site, the HL-EL500 boasts 1,000 candlepower (as opposed to 90 for the
'400) so it may well be a wothwhile improvement.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

Contacts in general, use Caig DeoxIT (brush-on is usually most convenient)

I haven't tried the stuff Ron Hardin recommended, but I've frequently
just coated such contacts with Vaseline. It helps considerably, greatly
slowing down corrosion of contacts.
