Hi,
Apologies if this is a frequently asked question...
I'm upgrading the wheels on my old bike. The current rear wheel is a clunky
old lump of steel with a poor quality five-speed screw-on freewheel. The new
rear wheel has a 105 cassette freehub, which I understand takes an 8 or
9-speed HG70 cassette.
What type of chain do I need with this? I know what the HG signifies, but
beyond that the arcane letters and numbers that go with chain specifications
might as well be runes as far as I'm concerned. Any advice much appreciated.
And will I need to replace my chainrings too?
(other matters: I have checked the dropout spacing and it's 130mm, so no
problems there. As for shifting, I have friction levers, so that is not an
issue either. Rear mech should be fine with the new set-up too.)
thanks,
d.
