They now have MP3s, but I like to listen to books on tape
when I work out. The company that makes the MP3 used to
make waterproof casette players. Does anyone have any
stocked up or ideas? If not a radio that works (Not speedo,
they don't).

Some years ago I made a device for a swimming coach friend,
which allowed his swimmers to hear music while they did
their laps but also let him talk to them.It consisted of a very ordinary amplifier which was
connected to a loop of wire which went several times round
the pool. The amplifier was fed by a cassette player or what
you will, with a microphone which could cut in.The swimmers had a small case (it actually was made for
soap) which was waterproofed at the join by vinyl tape.
Inside was a small coil pickup and amplifier, feeding one of
those tiny earpieces which go in the ear and waterproofed
with very thin rubber (from a condom)Now all this didn't use any sort of carrier frequency, it
was just the audio disgmal and I was suprised that it
worked. Even underwater there was a good signal, and this
in a large public pool. We experimented after hours, I
hasten to add.The problems were not electronic ones but to do with
waterproofing and corrosion. Not having money for custom-
made plastic cases, we gave it up after a time.If anyone wants more info just email me.
Hope this helps.
