I know you have probably had this question before but can you suggest a good method of attaching gear to a mountain bike? I would like to idealy have the bike hold everything securly so I don't need a back pack. (I go long distances and tend to carry quite large items)

ahh mabie a rack and a pannier bag or strap a backpack to the top of the rack if you want some real good pannier bags or handlebar bags or whatever look at ortileb, very expensive though -

Best most stable way is with a rear rack. Check out those from Blackburn and Topeak. Both very good.
