  1. Does anyone have the story on the South Coast path being
blocked for several years at Carlyon Bay, courtesy of land
developers and builders who appear to have the ear of
Restormel Council? We were down there recently and were
surprised that there seems to be no prospect of the
original path across the beach (which is near Charlestown
and St. Austell) being accessible to the public in the
    forseeable future.

This is the first time we've accessed this newsgroup so
apologies if this topic has been discussed already.

  3. My home is very near to Carlyon Bay beach, and I often go
running along that part of the coast path. Whilst I was home
for Easter, it seemed that although a small section of the
path was closed the disturbance was fairly minor - the SWCP
does not cross the beach, but follows the cliffs above. From
what I could see, the coast path from Par to Carlyon Bay
along the golf course is open as usual. The path would
usually then cross the beach access road, and go round the
back of the Carlyon Bay Hotel before meeting the road, which
it follows for 100m before going back onto the cliffs
towards Charlestown. However, it seems that since the
developers are using the access road, the Coastpath is
detoured across the golf course and onto the road a little
earlier - so only 100m or so of coastpath is actually
closed. I'm not sure whether the developers intend to close
any more of the path whilst it is building, but it seems
unlikely. The total detour is about 50m along the road.
Please do have a look at the link
    carlyonbaywatch.co.ukcarlyonbaywatch.co.uk which explains in more
detail the plans and the objections of local residents. The
area is surely one of the most beautiful regions in England,
and the beach is a haven for tourists and locals alike. HTH,
