It depends a lot on the bar and bar end you have. I've had LP composites Braids Jr. barends clamped
to a flat Easton CT-2 bar for years with no problems. The clamp area on the Braids is very smooth
with no sharp edges to cause stress risers. I also used just enough torque on the bolts to keep
them from moving. There are also the newer style barends like the Single Track Solutions
Revolutions that Easton has approved for use but don't look to me to provide as much usefulness as
traditional barends.

they usually have an insert. feel inside the bar end with your finger. if there's a metal
insert ~1" in length, you're set for bar ends. if not, i wouldn't do it - these bars get pretty
thin at the ends.
