  1. Hi guys, i'm a first time user of this site, i recently have become interested in cycling seriously and decided to do 25 miles to shake out the cobwebs on my old tourer.

In the last mile of the ride i was freewheeling into town downhill, at the base of the hill was a garage and drivers commonly cross oncoming traffic from the opposite direction to get into the garage.

As i reached the bottom of the hill i looked back up hill to check no cars were behind me. Seeing none i looked down at my gears to get out of 5th into something easier. A car had crossed onto my side of the road attempting to get into the garage and had slowed or stopped.

I didnt see him until i was 2-3m away. I hit the car travellling at about 10 mph and luckily only car away with a broken collar bone, how i didnt hit my head i dont know, but that is the last time i ride moins a helmet. The bikes a write-off too.

The cop on the scene said there was no police case, but i have to wonder, if it was 2 cars would it be the same story? it seems almost as if the driver was excused as he 'had the sun in his eyes'. Surely i have the same rights as an other vehicleson the road?

I have written to him asking for insurance details, intending to claim compensation. Is there anything else i should be doing? If anyone has any advice i'd be most grateful!🙂

The other car was driving on the wrong side of the road?

Yeah, sounds like you may have something that might be pursuable.
