I notice that the ergo lever index spring holder (part EC-RE111 on the exploded diagrams) is now (in the 2004 diagrams) labelled as being supplied as a 5-piece packet. Is this campag's way of acknowledging that the part does tend to break rather often?
Also the Record lever now has a carbon part with integral springs: labelled EC-RE065, instead of the alloy EC-RE111. Anyone have any views as to whether this might be a good replacement to use for all broken spring carriers - ie will it be more robust? I wonder what it costs...
NB I've had 2 broken (right hand) ergo spring carriers in 3 years. Campag told me this is "unusual". I wonder... The symptom is that the shifting gets a bit soft or mushy. If you have this symptom I'd reckon it's much more likely that the carrier is broken rather than the springs worn out!

Not unusual but do what we do. Dremel out the portion of the back plastic cap that sits directly over the post of the EC-RE- 111(often breaks it when onto a habr, particularly anatomic bends) and take the plate, EC-RE-057, and grind the notch flat, so that it doesn't gouge the post base and also helps to keep the ring from breaking.
I think this teeny part should be steel, and perhaps ti in the Record lever. We have repaired many.
