I have an assortment of lockrings and there are no markings on them that explicitly distinguish them as either 9 speed or 10 speed. I know they are either one or the other and that the hubs of the later 9 speed are the same as the 10 speed hubs. As far as I know the lockrings therefore are compatible with one another. Is there anything I should look out for (since I know I have no older 9 speeds that were adaptable from 8 speed hubs)?
I have a Record 10 hub and cassette that seems to come loose a bit easily and at the other end of the spectrum, a Chorus "late 9" hub \ Chorus 10 cassette with a lock ring that was fairly hard to removed even when it was not torqued on expecially hard. It makes me think that maybe the threads are slightly different pitch on the Chorus hub since the Record \ Record needs a lot of torque to keep from coming loose enough to be noticeable while riding. I had been using my Park for Shimano lockring tool to install and remove and it is not a perfect fit. Now that I have the Park for Campy cassette / BB I can torque as recommended but I want to be sure about the threads on the Chorus hub. If there is any doubt I would almost rather buy a new lockring to get rid of the heavier steel one that comes with Chorus. I know it makes no real difference but it feels strange to put it on when you have ti on the others.
