  1. I have a computer program - www.dietpower.com - but its calorie count is far different than the calorie count that my recumbent exercise bike shows. The computer program shows quite a bit more burnt than the exercise bike shows.

I'm searching for a link that will tell me how many calories burnt, what is accurate, etc., so I can add it to the dietpower program.

    Can anyone help me?

Incidentally, I have been successful so far in weight loss, have gone from 328 (per Weight Watchers) to around 220. But I'd still like to lose more, so I could get my weight down to normal for my age and sedentary status.

    :p

  2. First, congratulations on your weight loss and improved fitness. Second, generally speaking, more calories are burnt riding on the road or trail than on a stationary bike. This is due to variable rolling resistance, terrain, etc. Remember, calculations of calories burned are generalizations based on averaging variables like cyclist's weight, body mass, gender, etc. The only way to calculate metabolic rates scientifically requires a very expensive lab. Professional riders use these types of tests to maximize their performance.

For most of us, the main objective has to be to burn, on average, more calories than we consume. When we do that, we lose weight.

Having said that, try these sites on biking and burning calories:
