The Dalai Lama lectured the cream of the University of
Toronto's academic hierarchy yesterday on cutting their risk
of heart attack by reducing their use of first-person
pronouns, including ''I,'' ''me,'' ''mine'' and ''self.''

and compassion being good for physical health. And he said
the academic world should pay more attention to the
promotion of human values, including compassion, love,

He said he learned about the link between heart attacks and
the frequent use of first-person pronouns during a recent
meeting with neuro-scientists. What calms the heart, he
said, is feeling compassion for others and embracing all of
humanity with love and goodwill.
