I was just wondering if you could give me some advice on you homeland? I plan on going to your country for vacation in August and was wondering if you can give me some tips on stuff to do while I'm there. I will be going to do some fly fishing at the river Sir and staying around that area. I have gotten a lot of the information sent out for tourists, but was hoping to get some insight from a native. Per the company that we are using, the fishing is supposed to be great!
If you get some time, let me know what else I can plan on while I'm there.
Thanks,
Mark
Mark,
I'm not a fishing enthusiast but I can tell you that Ireland is a very popular destination for freshwater and sea fishing.
The sport of fishing or angling (as it's more commonly known) is very very popular.
The River Suir is what I think you're referring to.
The River Suir originates in Co.Tipperary (home of Sean Kelly) in the town of Thurles, and runs south east in to the Port of Waterford on the SE Irish Coast.
Total length of the River Suir is approximately 100 miles and it runs through
arguably the most beautiful part of Ireland.
There are plenty of places to visit in the immediate envoirns of the River Suir.
You have Thurles ( the home of the Irish Sporting games of Hurling and Gaelic
Football), Cashel (historic abbey), Clonmel (beautiful inland town), carrick on Suir (home of Sean Kelly) and Waterford (major Irish city and home of thwe world famous Waterford Crystal).
So there is plenty of places to visit along the Suir.
Depending on where you intend to base yourself, I can recommend a lot of other towns and places to see as well.
In fact, although i live some distance away from the location specified above,
I can recommend you visit a guy based 10 miles away from where I live.
This guy builds/makes, by hand, fishing rods. He's world famous and is based in a village called Castleconnell. The rods that this guy makes are world famous and it's well worth visiting his place, just to look at what he does.
If you can give me more details of where you're intending to stay, i can give you more specific details and directions to suitable places to visit.
Hope this helps.
