If anyone wants to submit a story or artwork to OYB, now's the time.
I'm going to put out #10 in the next few weeks. DEADLINE: NOW
I'll have a wide variety of topical areas, to cover all the bases that
a General Interest magazine like Esquire, Outside or OYB should.
Topics: Bikes, XC Ski, Boats, Paddling, Philosophy, Literature,
Cooking, Travel (Local), Civics, Music. Maybe Blades, Air guns,
Archery, Cars. Sky's the limit.
Style Note: OYB articles are personalized and DIY in spirit. So the
Philosophy and Literature articles, say, will be a tale of what has
happened to YOU as relates to Philosophy or Literature and your own
EFFORTS. It has to be real life. No head stuff.
Lately I've written most everything at the OYB website, but there's
other folks' stuff buried in there. The last issue was all me. But
previously they were mostly other people. So check an old issue if you
have one around. : ) I'm game for going back to the old way.
I pay in issues and prestige. Oh yeah!
The new issue is a freaky new concept I named "catazeen." It's a
catalog / magazine. Unlike a magalog. Magalogs are on newstands these
days and they suck. Catazeens are cool. Well, they will be. As soon as
mine, the first!, comes out.
I'll have topical sections with catalog entries showing book covers
and giving excerpts from each of the dozens of books, zeens, CDs and
vids that I publish or wholesale---people and stores will use these
entries for ordering all this freak material they can't hardly get
anywhere else. In between these sections I'll have original articles
and art that fit each topic. Whoa!
The OYB Catazeen will have a glossy cover, 48 pages, and ADS!, and
will go out to thousands of independent bookstores, sportshops and
newstands nationwide, along with past OYB subscribers and recent OYB
mail-order customers.
It'll also be the start of my new subscription offering: quarterly,
$10. Yeah, I'm reviving ye olde OYB, but new wine gets new wineskins
around here.
