Filthy wage slave that I am, I haven't taken much leave this summer and can't get away until after a public open day at the Lab on 8 October. However, hopeless dreamer that I am, I'm planning a trip to the Cairngorms later that month so that I can enjoy the golden glow of the indian summer and the endless vistas under a blue sky as I walk over the hills and settle into a wild camp or two to enjoy the clear frosty autumn nights.
Mmm. Best make that hopeless optimist as well, then.
Nevertheless, I will be off and making the best of whatever hand the weather deals me. I'm thinking of taking a couple of days over the walk over Braeriach and Cairn Toul via the Chalamain gap and have a question for you experienced Cairngorm hands; is there a decent spot for a tent by Lochain Uaine? I've read a few times of folk camping in the Garbh Choire, and that may be what I end up doing, but I'd like to give myself the option of waking up a little higher (or stopping a little earlier) if I wish, so I'm checking my options. Anyone ever tried it?

Yes, there are sites for small tents. It's a fine place to camp.

No contest - camp by the Wells of Dee on the Briariach Plateau. Clean water, flat site (can be a bit windy though) and ideally placed for the tops. View across to Ben Macdhui and down the Lairig Ghru fantastic!

I was pitched somewhere around there this summer but looking out over the other side back towards Aviemore. I always like watching twinkly lights in the distance.
