My Marin Bobcat trail has the deraileur cables on the down tube, so whenever I go off road (almost always) mud, dust, debri and other stuff gets there and shifting becomes difficult. Last weekend trouble was big, I had to do two or more shifts to move only one gear up, I thought the shifter was broken, but after going under rain for a while, Voilá they worked again just fine, the rain cleaned the cables. They were stucked by all the filth.
So what could be a solutions for this? Is there a way to keep those cables clean? Or can I reroute them through the top tube? I suppose debri won't hurt them as easy in this way. Or as a extreme measure should I consider buying another frame with the cables running on the top tube?:eek:

Solanog, this is a cable routing a lot of companies do. You are probably using Jagwire housing. Strip it off and switch for Shimano SP41 housing and get cable liner (a clear tube) OR get GORE Ride-On gore-tex cables. the GORE is quite expensive and will last a while, but the Shimano will deliver faster/crisper shifting performance.
